Nettalk duo how does it work

My suggestions to anyone who is thinking about buying Net talk,…. I never ever recommend this nettalk phone, basically they charge u for a year and if u come across any problems in the mid, u never get answer from their customer support. Even if u try to call to customer support, no body will be available to answer. They need only money from u without providing service. I have 5 tickets, and all i ever got is one answer, a rididculous answer, saying i see you are having trouble, let us know if we can help.

They never actually help me. I was supposed to receive a call from tech support twice, the only two times i was able to get onto the chat, now it just goes to sending tickets. I posted to the forum to try and get help, but after a few comments from a user and an eemployee of the company i got nowhere, they didnt help and less the employee was completely unhelpful.

The Nettalk company is not even accredited with BBB, their accredited was revoked by BBB, and there have been numerous complaints about nettalk, people who have had the same problem. A total exceeding complaints have been made. Hopefully you come here and read this before making a purchase. I have had my NetTalk for about 6 months now, I am considering adding another year.

I am reading the reviews here, and seeing much negativity. I have had good experiences with mine, phone calls are loud and clear. The callers hear me well. I think I will pay one more year rather than the two based on what I have read here to be sure. I do know the customer service does not exist. So that is certainly a problem. Other than that, if the product works I am happy for now. They charge u per year and u never get the assistance if smtg wrong. This company is cheating company.

U will not be able call to the number u want in a single dial. U have to try10 times to get it connected and automatically disconnects while speaking. Total waste of money and time. I strongly recommends not to buy this phone. These people are a complete joke. Apparently they do not refund money, And I had just renewed my service less than 23 days prior to being put on a pay as you go service. The e mail I received explained that were to many different numbers calling my phone number.

This phone is only used to call family in Canada by a 84 year old senior. After that I just went ahead and paid for another years service that same day, just to get my phone up and work again. It made no difference! I had to try three times just to get a place in the chat Que. And then I had a 95 minute wait, when I finally got someone they were anything but helpful. Your Question: This is my third attempt to get through on the chat support line.

My service has been shut down according to the message because of over use or lack of credit. I have bought a one year service plan for the past two years. Please wait and one of our operators will be with you shortly. We are working hard to resolve any issues you may be experiencing. Based upon your usage, your account has been placed on our High Usage Prepaid plan due to abnormal calling usage according to our Terms of Service.

You agreed to these terms when you signed up for your netTALK account. It included the US and Canada, and those are the only calls made by a 84 year old senior. She call her brothers and friends everyday back in Canada, Did I perches the wrong plan when I renewed my service? I also thought it was unlimited as advertised, so if this is not the case what plan do I need.

I switched from being a six year customer with Vonage to get away from the monthly billing and because of the Nettalk rates? How many min or somthing? The policy just states that usage can not be excessive and abnormal and for residential use David Golding:Ok so what is normal usage? I will also try back at a different time. Got a feeling you just really screwed up pal? How could I have used up my credit? The policy just states that usage can not be excessive and abnormal and for residential use David Golding: Ok so what is normal usage?

There are currently 25 people ahead of you in the queue. And a name or operator number would be helpful David Golding:Ok, can I speak to a supervisor please! And a name or operator number would be helpful Live Customer Support:Unfortunately, for this matter there is nothing that we can do Live Customer Support:Unfortunately, for this matter there is nothing that we can do Live Customer Support:Unfortunately, for this matter there is nothing that we can do Live Customer Support:Unfortunately, for this matter there is nothing that we can do David Golding:Ok, can I speak to a supervisor please!

Live Customer Support:Unfortunately, you are unable to speak to someone for Terms of Service Violations David Golding:So you are refusing to let me talk to your supervisor? So you are refusing to turn this over to your supervisor. You have refused to help with just about any question I have asked you. Even what addition plan I could perches, you responses have been pretty much rude at best. At the very least you should have let me talk to your supervisor.

I will for ward this entire conversation to you corporate office. I will also switch back to Vonage. It is sad that companies like Nettalk can exist in this world. Why would this reviewer attempt to give legitimacy to their product is beyond me. There is no price low enough that would justify useless service with pretend customer support.

Spend your money elsewhere. I used the Duo product for 1. My internet and router setup did not change since I installed the product. Are you still having any issues, questions or comments??????? I left all the information that you are asking me for, so here it is again…. Have you sent me a new unit yet? In order for them to decide you need a replacement i have to put you on the call back list in order for me to put you on the call back list you have to give me the information.

I apologize that this is inconvenient but as i said to help you, you have to cooperate by giving me the necessary information. Call back number that is not the nettalk number i need a time also what would be best for you keep in mind we are open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm. Serial number of the device and the mac address.

Why am I not getting service and having this unit replaced? All I want is for it to work. They should have replaced the equipment, no questions asked and had the defective device sent to them to troubleshoot instead of causing the customer more hassle, for what? It could be used to basically steal the identity of your device.

There exists no customer service. No functional forum. No customer contact email. Slow or inexistant answering to complaints. Well i bought this product and it never worked. No matter what i tried. The only thing i got was the old school run around. Loads of bull excrements. My only option was to contact the email that specifically said not a customer service email, which is where i got the closest thing to customer service, but they couldnt manage to make a call to an international number.

I even sent an email with an explanaition on how it is done. I have 2 of the Duo Wifi devices. The first device I have had for almost 2 years and it works good. It does cut off calls if you are on one for 3 hours. The second device I got in March I finally got a response from tech support in August. Never heard anything by email or phone.

Right about then the device would no longer connect to the network by Ethernet or WIFI so submitted many more tickets. Finally got a call in Jan and they did a firmware update and got it working for the first time since March Bob Bliss. I am convinced this company is a total SCAM. They make money selling to the unknowing public and have no intention of supporting the faulty, lousy equipment.

My story is very similar to yours. This is the worst product I have ever purchased. Trust me if you are considering this product stop now and look at another option. If you recently bought this product return it ASAP.

Slingbox works OK. I cannot dial numbers, they even have a special FAQ on this known issue which offers no help. Often I dial a number and receive dead silence not even a ringing tone even though the person I called receives the call and picks up.

After 4 hours of no use I must unplug and then replug in the device. So far I have done this 25 times in 3 days. It works, sometimes, but often takes more than 1 try to resolve the issue. The only good thing with this product is it has a 30 day return policy, which is surprising because it took me 1 day to realize this is JUNK. Oh and there support. I could not find a phone number to call like other users have stated, I assume they dropped there phone support, maybe because they were answering calls on the POS device!

Anyway to date I have contact online support for 2 days. They tell me I am 17, 14, 10, 12 in line. This is CRAP as they have never once actually replied to any of my web chats. Every single one has waited until my webchat has automatically been converted to an email and then the chat is closed, having never really opened. If you buy this product after reading these accurate complaints you deserve every bit of aggravation that awaits you.

I have tried to contact them but to no avail. Worst company I have ever dealt with. NetTalk has no support at all. They have support through online chat only from Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm only, not always replay back. No one to talk to. Some Problems: 1. Several hours of contacting and recontacting NetTalk resulted in several on line fix attempts but ended with them deciding to send us a new device. They did. They are required when a replacement device it set up.

We are in New Minas, Nova Scotia. They supply the phone number with a Nova Scotia area code, but it is registered in Halifax, about km away. This means that if our neighbor calls us the call is routed through Halifax and he pays long distance charges.

Nobody in town want to call us and pay a long distance fee. The concept of the phone is great, but they have a way to go. Similar experiences to the comments above, my duo worked for about a year, then all of a sudden I started having issues, around this time they cut out the phone support and now all there is, is chat which you wait and wait.

I asked for a email to get my duo refunded as i still have a year left on my subscription, the email given came back as not existing??? No support, no refund…will not recommend this product. This unit does not work properly and when it happened to me, I tried to contact them through their chat. I got disconnected every time it happened, after half an hour. Then I found some email through Amazon and wrote there. We scheduled a talk and they never called at that day and time.

They called on a different day and different time and said that they could not reach me. I keep wasting my time and nothing is happening. I asked for my money back and it seems to me that I am never going to receive it.

Do not buy this product and service. It is the worst I have ever seen in any country. I have purchased 4 Nettalk duos for my rental properties. I will never buy another one. If they go bad and 2 of them have now , you will never get through to tech support. Literally hours in the Chat queue or weeks to wait for an email.

I purchased a Magic Jack and it took just minutes to set up. There is no excuse for this poor of tech support. When you see you are number 51 in the Queue, you may as well dedicate the entire day to listening to a speaker phone — and that is usually a cell phone since your other phone is down!!

I have had 2 nettalk duos for more than three years. At first it was a struggle to get them working correctly with the help of tech support. Yes, I have the latest router, high speed internet, etc………..

Finally they worked. Then they began to drop calls, then there was a bad delay, then there was very poor voice quality. More tech support, got them propped up again. Now I can get calls from cells but cannot place a call to them. So they are just overpriced little bricks as far as I am concerned. People, do yourselves a big favor. Steer clear of this mis-engineered junk and get some real hardware: Ooma. My netTalk Duo also lost the ability to call cell phones Sprint a few weeks ago.

Tried again and no response for a day, so far. Tried today to use the online chat support. Not open when I started work today. Opened chat later in the day and waited more than an hour before they went home with no response.

After using Nettalk for about 3 years I have moved to MagicJack. The device stopped working and it is impossible to reach any support. I opened 2 tickets and also opened a case with the BBB. Do NOT buy a Nettalk. If you have one, switch now before you have issues and are without a home phone for two months like I was while I waited for help from that horrible company.

I hear where you are coming from Jesse! I was without service on one of my devices for 8 months before I got any help with it. I did finally get it working again after finally getting a call back from support. Wish support was a lot more timely in their tickets.

MagicJack however, re-ups and beats NetTalk overall for plans and pricing with a cheaper device and cheaper calling plans. Both MagicJack and NetTalk offer a device based solution with basic service and features as follows :. MagicJack has the MagicApp allowing your smartphone to answer the home calls on the go and you can also download the app and make free calls without being a MagicJack customer. Image 1: MagicJack Go unveils a sleeker, angular look.

Verdict: MagicJack Go wins again on this front with their far superior calling app. Configuration is easy with either a high speed modem, or any internet accessible device. You need to register for an account the first time you use either device. During registration you can choose your number for free unless you are porting a number. This is unfortunate and long overdue on MagicJacks front.

Verdict: The MagicJack device has all of its software pre-installed whereas the NetTalk device comes with setup guidelines to install the software. This makes MagicJack Installation quicker and easier. Want to compare the large VoIP Providers? Check out my links below where I have compared other service providers. I usually going oversea. When landing some Asian airport with free wifi, I can make any call with my Magic Jack and my Notebook. It works similar to a MJ in that you plug the device into the laptop and plug a phone into the device and if connect to the internet, you can make calls.

Make sure you have the NetTalk utility loaded on the laptop. The advantage for the DUO is that it can also work without a computer. Have had mine for 1 week. It works OK. Some slight echo on my end but people I call cannot hear it — they say it sounds fine, very close to my POTS. Note that having the yellow light flashing is normal, even after it has registered with their server. It just keeps flashing. I had thought it could be an error but it is not.

The problem is on his end. On the flip side, I struggled with MagicJack for several months. On its best day, MagicJack was a disaster. The first unit I received went bad after a few weeks. Getting MJ to replace it was extremely frustrating. Their customer service consists solely of on-line text chat with someone in the Philippines working off a script.

It is painfully slow and obvious the CSR has zero technical expertise and cannot deviate from the woefully inadequate script. The replacement worked — but not really. Folks on the forum were great and I was determined to get my MJ to perform as the ads claimed it would. No dice. Been using it for two months now and it has been great. Sound quality is as good as my POTS line. I would recommend you check the netTALK forum for a list of known compatible routers before you try their service.

Hate to say it, but you might want to cut your loses and return the unit. The devices are still too finicky. With this setup you are bypassing any filtering that your router is setting on the Nettalk and you can confirm if your VOIP device is working.

We own the original version of nettalk for more than a year now. Works fine for us and after 4 months it paid for itself. We ditched the landline service because of the cost and we kept on getting 3rd party charging our phone line for services we did not sign up for. It is better if you have a google voice number and have it ring your cell and nettalk at the same time. The service I think was out for a little time so it only rang the cellphones.

I ordered nettalk duo friday afternoon ups 2nd day will arrive sometime this tuesday. I would greatly appreciate any info. I am really not on top of the computer and phone stuff, and I am just wondering if I get internet through time warner and have the router..

I dont know about the upload and all that speed? People calling me from canada will have to dial a NY area code making it long distance call. You can select an area code remote from you so your friends or relatives in that area can make a local call to contact you. I was impressed. Then the device just started introducing noise on the line to the point were it was unsusable. That process was started on 28 Jan PM.

Yet to get any help from customer service even though i have called several times, and posted tickets on their site, which they have replied to by saying someone will get this looked after. But it is now Feb 4th and still no resolve.

Wireless Gateway 2wire I believe the pro is 9 mbs. Thank you so much in advance. Going on 3 months now with Net Talk. No problems. I had att basic and it worked fine. I was using magicjack, but had trouble receiving calls so I choose not to renew my subscription and bought a number off of freephoneline. Net Talk said i should tell Verizon and see if they can improve their quality of Service, but those nit wits at Verizon reply choppy english with sales pitches instead.

Currently we offer numbers all over the US. If you cannot find your local area code upon login into your Customer account please check back at another time as we acquire new phone numbers all the time!

Somtimes during my teleconference, the call just dropped death. To start you will have to dial your area code even within your own area code. I called and that is just the way it is not too much of a big deal. Heres the problem, you will dial people 2,3,4 times before the number connects and then a quarter of the time either you cant hear them or they cant hear you.

This is not acceptable when it happens again and again. The tech support could find no issues. Had to just send this item back and go back to my old Voip service. Any comments on the following? We have several standard phones in our two story house. Can one go to the location where the outside phone line comes in and distributes to all the extensions, and gather up all the extensions and plug that into the netTalk device, which in turn would sit next to my router? I have a connecting pad where all the extensions come in, since I installed all the extensions myself many years ago.

It is in the space just below where my router is located. Does netTalk work with extensions? Being hearing impaired, I have two CapTel phones voice to text on a small screen, using a phone and an Ethernet cable connection , which require an Internet connection.

This is similar to my configuration. I have the Duo telephone output connected to one of my phone jacks. It is then distributed to all the other phone jacks in my house. I did disconnect the line coming into the house from the telephone pole though.

Works like a charm. Plug the phone line into the NetTalk and the ethernet into a router port. I am hooked up to a Netgear router with no problem. Why not give it a try. You are fortunate. HI: Have Nettalk for about a week and seems to work well.. I have not contacted Net talk yet…any ideas what it may be? Perhaps try a different phone, or computer, or router port.

NetTalk Duo is not good. I cant dial all kind of numbers specially with the bank customer service. I am planning to return it. It is not a good product. I have made several long distance calls, called my home from a cell phone etc. The calls are clear, it works as expected just like Vonage. I have it going through my wireless router and have the phone line plugged into a wall jack which allows all the phones in my home to work, same as Vonage.

It was a breeze to set-up. I have broadband Internet though my cable company Brighthouse. I was able to get a local phone in the city in which I live as well.

The caller ID worked same as Vonage , it gave the and name of the person calling, not sure what people on the other end see when I call them. I was able to get messages from the phone and messages were also emailed to my email address as well like Vonage.

I plan on keeping my Vonage account for another month or so just to make sure everything is OK with Nettalk. Nettalk gave me a pretty good deal, I ordered it over the phone and mentioned I could get it for less they I could buy it directly from them if I purchased it from Walmart.

I received it in less than I week. So far everything has gone like clockwork. Quite Frankly, it works just like Vonage, it just costs less. Nettlak is aggressively marketing in Oklahoma with TV advertisements. I was duped into buying the product. When I tried to activate, I was told that Nettalk has no telephone numbers available in Oklahoma City calling area.

I was informed that Nettalk usually gets telephone numbers by the end or beginning of each month and that I will be allotted a number at that time. I was then asked to pick an area code from the neighboring state.

Now, even my neighbors have to make long distance calls to contact me over this phone. It also appears that they have telephone numbers ONLY in limited mega cities. I was wanting, can nettalk accept collect calls? My son calls me collect, and I have a nephew who calls me from jail collect.

Will I be able to accept their calls? Also I have 4 phones in my home. Do I need to hook them all up to the netalk. The main phone is hooked up to a jack and the other 3 plugged into a outlet. I hope you can can anwser my questions. This would really help to cut my bills down! Give your son a calling card. Then you can connect phones to open jacks around the house. If you do this, disconnect the telephone line in from the phone company to your house. Firstly, is it possible to switch the routers?

That way if it works at the beach with the Linksys, you know there is an issue with the Belkin. If not, do you have a computer at the beach house. I would then contact the NetTalk people. Yes, the NEtTalk will connect directly to a computer. Maybe you guys can suggest something for this really annoying and consistent issue that I have been facing with NetTalk DUO for a month now.

I notice that DUO stops working after every few hours, sometimes its 2 hours or sometimes 12 and there is no pattern. When DUO is behaving this way any incomming call goes straight to voicemail and I have tested it by calling my DUO number from my cell phone or other landline — same result.

Does it work OK if you use it in PC mode? When you set it up, you can ask for any US telephone number and there will be no charge when your parents call you using the DUO. My husband travels to Europe a lot. Will this work plugging directly into a cat5 port in the hotel? Any IP address issues? Most hotels have free internet, but it is wired in the rooms.

I was thinking to buy 2 DUOs one for home and one for him to take so we could talk free. Yes and no. Have had a duo for about 2 months now. Local call to area get cut off frequently. Reported problem and so far they have done nothing to alleviate the issue. Did not have this problem with Majic Jack, but got tired of having to leave the PC on all the time. Finally gave up and went back to telco service.

It is not worth the hassle.
